Critics contend that the industrial growth of hemp is a back door way of legalizing the popular drug marijuana. That simply is not true.

Hemp grown for biomass makes very poor grade marijuana. The 20 to 40 million Americans who smoke marijuana would loath to smoke hemp grown for biomass, so no one could make a dime selling a farmers hemp biomass crop as marijuana.

Just as George W Bush was starting to close the gap between the number of people who strongly approve and disapprove of his performance, the gap has been blown wide open in the wake of the DP world port transfer controversy.

Today just 21% strongly approve, while 39% strongly disapprove of the President’s performance according to Rasmussen Reports.  What was even on Election Day 2004, and got as low as 9% recently, this gap between enthusiastic supporters and dissenters is now 18%.

This is extremely important in an election year.  While President Bush is not running for re-election, many of is fellow republicans are facing some very tough challengers when you look at each individual race they have to run in.

In a country where roughly half of all Americans are registered to vote, and half of those actually show up on Election Day, new voter registration and convincing those who don’t punch a party’s ticket automatically is key.  It’s a battle between what inside pollsters refer to as their 1s and 5s. I’ll explain. 1s are people who are with out a doubt voting for you and try to get as many people to join them.  2s are people who will most likely vote for you, but their minds can be changed, they aren’t going to change anyone else mind, and they vote at a smaller rate than 1s do. 3s are you true undecided independents, who generally don’t vote, and their votes are generally splitt. 4s and 5s are your opponent’s respective 2s and 1s.

In the past 3 election cycles, while the democrats 1s were the loudest and got the most press coverage, the republicans 1s possessed a greater ability to get out the vote.

That clearly is not the case this time, and this advantage seven months before election day is so great that even Howard Dean might be able to screw it up.

In regards to the failed Al-Qaeda suicide bombing of The Abqaiq oil processing facility:

Today the United Arab Emirates decided to delay the transfer of port ownership and operations to the state owned company Dubai Ports World.  This comes after a whirl wind of press coverage that has turned the political landscape upside down.

Rasmussen Reports has found the following:

Just 17% of Americans approve of the port ownership transfer.

For the first time since 9/11 Democrats have a two point advantage over President Bush when it comes to national security, 43% to 41%.  At the present, this issue is a BIG winner for them.

The same poll though indicates that most people do not know much about how port ownership in this country works.  15% believe that the port in question is currently owned by a US company (it’s owned by P&O out of The UK) and 46% are not sure.

I have an open mind about this issue.   This transaction is nothing new in the world of globalization, and would not have made a single headline if it was sold to country that was non-Arab.  I want to list some facts that are helping me come to a conclusion.

1/2 of all US ports are currently owned and operated by a foreign company.

The United Arab Emirates is a staunch ally in the war on terror. What John Kerry referred to as “Window Dressing” in the 2004 Presidential election, the UAE provides among other things, access to their docks for ship repairs and permission to land on their air fields in conjunction with operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The UAE has a very modern western style economy that out passes many countries in the world, including 6.7% GDP growth and a 2.7% unemployment rate. While its main source of revenue is from oil sales, they have made a calculated move towards capitalism and to participate in the global economy. Dubai Ports World is an example of that.

Along side its other moderate Arab neighbor Qatar, which hosts CENTCOM forward headquarters that was and continues to be critical in the Iraq War, is slowly moving towards democracy. Currently the members of their legislature are appointed. President Khalifa announced in December of 2005 that elections would take place in early 2006 for 1/2 of those seats.

Now if we want to have an honest debate about globalization and whether US shipping ports should or should not be owned and operated by non-US firms, than I am open to that debate.

What I am against is holding one country to a different standard simply because of their location, culture and religion.

I am still reserving judgment, but in order for me to appose this deal, I would need to see actual proof that the port currently owned and operated by P&O out of the UK would present an increased national security risk if that port was owned and operate by Dubai Ports World.

The only thing I have seen is guilt by association.

S.D. House Approves Abortion Ban Bill

Now if this new South Dakota law, which bans all abortions unless the women’s life is in danger, is found to be constitutional, every state in the nation will then have the mandate and the ability to write their own abortion laws.

The South Dakota Bill does not include an exception for rape.  In logical terms, if a legislature with a mandate from the people who elected them feel that if abortion is killing an unborn child when it is not rape, I don’t see how it is not killing an unborn child if rape in involved.

A very good point that is brought up about parental rights.

If a rape victim becomes pregnant and bears a child, the rapist could have the same parental rights as the mother, said Krista Heeren- Graber, executive director of the South Dakota Network Against Family Violence and Sexual Assault.

"The idea the rapist could be in the child's life ... makes the woman very, very fearful. Sometimes they need to have choice," Heeren-Graber said.

It would make sense to include in the bill that if a women is raped and a baby is born as a result, the father would have all parental rights stripped away from him.  That’s if the rapist is ever let out of jail in the first place.

According to PASSIA, The Palestinian Academic Society for the Study of International Affairs, there were 4.1 Million Palestinian refugees, in which 2.5 million of them reside outside of the West Bank and Gaza in Lebanon, Syria and Jordan.

As you may know, Lebanon has been the latest democracy domino to fall in the Middle East with the exodus of Syrian troops who had occupied the country for nearly 30 years, and controlled every aspect of the Lebanese government.

One of the ugly realities of this conflict is that none of the surrounding Arab countries have or will grant citizenship to a Palestinian. This was done at the request of the PLO who wanted as many refugees as possible in order to bolster their movement against Israel. Immigration really doesn’t take place in despot regimes anyway, in or out. The result is millions of Palestinians living in massively over crowded refugee camps.

However there are two new players in town: The new/reborn Lebanon and Iraq. Immigration policy will no longer be set by dictators supporting Yasar Arafat, but by elected officials who wish to promote peace and prosperity. Elected officials will feel less pressure to refuse citizenship to a Palestinian simply to keep the “right of return” issue prominent. Jordan will feel less pressure as well.

Currently both Iraq and Lebanon are holding the status quo until their government settle.

A future final peace deal must include Lebanon and Jordan at the table, in which a Palestinian Refugee is given four options. Move to The Gaza Strip or West Bank in which they would become Palestinian citizens. Also on a limited, quota based system, they can remain in Jordan/Lebanon or immigrate to Israel, in which citizenship would be granted as well.

I took issue with most of his comments, but I want to focus on something I take to heart: The slander of Wal-Mart. Last night, Ted “The Swimmer” Kennedy used the term “Wal-Martification” in regards to how he views America in the global economy, a.k.a. globalization.

Why do liberals hate Wal-Mart? Is it because they provide opportunities in small towns where there once wasn’t any? Is it because of their ultra low prices, allowing lower income families to provide a better standard of living? Is it because Wal-Mart has been listed as one of the best places to work? Spare me the antidotal stories of harassment. Every large company has lawyers fighting such charges. Spare me the stories about how poor mom and pop are out of business. Wal-Mart employs the masses; Mom and pop employed mom and pop and a few others. I doubt mom and pop paid more per hour than Wal-Mart does, and I doubt they provided any benefits.

Liberals hate success. Liberals detest the fact that men and women, through the work of a “big box retailer” can improve their lives with out their (government’s) help.

Middle East 101 (acording to me)

Hamas conceding Israel has a right to exist? Egypt releasing political prisoners to Israel and vice versa? What the heck is going on here?

Out of all the smoke and mirrors peace deals that the Middle East peace process has produced, I believe this is a genuine opportunity for a normalized situation in Middle East.

The situation is this: Saudi Arabia, Iran, and Syria/Lebanon do not recognize Israel as a state, and all basically have state policies of Israeli elimination. Egypt and Jordon were in the same group, but have made their “peace” with Israel over the decades.

The main sticking point in any negotiation is something called “right of return”. When Israel was created, per United Nations Resolution 181 after World War II, 300,000 – 400,000 Palistinians were displaced. Arabs say the Jews through them out, Jews say they left on their own to avoid the issuing massacre from Israel’s neighboring Arab countries, which invaded the day after Israel declared itself a state. Even if they were “thrown out”, since when does this give them a “right of return”. There have been thousands of wars over thousands of years, and everyone has had a winner and a looser. The Jews won and the Arabs lost. It’s interesting to note that the Arabs who had remained in Israel became Israeli citizens after the war.

The displaced palestinians who are of Egyptian and Jordanian decent were still promised a state. From 1948 to 1967, Jordan occupied the west bank and Egypt occupied Gaza. The Palestinian state was never created. In 1967, Israel, in what is commonly referred to as the 6 day war, took the West Bank from Jordan, The Golan Heights from Syria, and The Gaza Strip from Egypt. Its Ironic that Israel is working towards creating a palistinian state in Gaza and the West Bank when Jordan and Egypt did nothing to create such a state when they had control of the territories for almost 20 years. 99.9% of the Golan Heights had been offered back to Syria in return for recognition. Syria refused.

The consensus “border”, even among the Saudi Royal Family is the “green line”, which was the old Jordan/Israeli border before the 1967 6 day war. The security fence, a wall in some areas, falls 80% on the line, and leaves 94% of the west bank and all of Gaza for a Palestinian state.

The death of Yaser Arafat signals the end of the struggle. Its time for peace.

I got a new Car!!! Mazda 6! Words can not describe how much I disliked my Honda Civic. Let me list the upgrades:

1) Size Matters. I am no longer cuddling with whomever is riding shotgun.
2) When I have passengers, no longer does it take 12 seconds to reach 60.
3) Key-less Entry. I felt I was the last person on earth the have to walk up to my door and turn the key.
4) My Old XM Radio sucked, as in you could only see 8 characters of the song title or band. I got one like my brothers, and it kicks ass.
5) My old Civic's color us U-G-L-Y. Some advice: If your getting a car, dont get the trendy new color. Get Black, white, or silver.
6) Automatic! Ive never had one, so its cool. Its got a quick shift feature, so I can still go "manual". This is awsome when accelorating.
7) Radio controls on on the steering wheel. Very cool.
8) Smooth ride. If I kept driving that civic I would of had hemroids in a few years.

Who would have thought early in the day when I heard Butch Davis was gone from Cleveland that there would be another coaching move in sports during the day that would be bigger?

Davis:

I personally would have given him one more year. Here is why:

1. I just liked him. He was a winner as an assistant under Jimmy Johnson at Dallas and was a winner at Miami Fl. when that program was in the toilet. I listened to post game shows and his analysis of things and just thought he knew what he was talking about (as opposed to sometimes listening to coaches and wondering what in the world are they talking about.)

2. While his drafts have not been very good, and I am the first to point that out, the Browns drafts before him by former coach Chris Palmer and GM Dwight Clarke were even worse.

3. Two or three years ago the Browns released several starters taking a big cap hit that year in order to improve themselves in the future. It was going to be tough for Davis to win that year.

4. While all teams have injuries, and it is a part of the game, as a Brown's fan I do think Cleveland has had more than their fair share the last couple of seasons. For example, their top two drafts picks this year are lost before the season (safety Jones) and in the first couple of games (Winslow.)

Wanting Cleveland to be good as quick as possible, I thought the quickest way was going to be by having Davis coach one more season with guys getting healthy in the off season, some new free agents, and another draft. While there are examples, it is hard to imagine a first year coach having a good season next year with Cleveland.

Willingham:

I am not a big fan of coaching changes two or three years into a new coach taking over unless the guy is a disaster. For me this especially applies to the college game and all the intricaces involved with recruiting. That being said, here are some facts on Willingham at Notre Dame.

1. 21-15 record. Two years ago Tressel goes undefeated and wins his fifth national championship and follows that up with an 11 win season and a top 10 finish. Ohio St. has a bumpy season this year and some people are all wound up (which is foolish in my opinion.) You can only imagine what Notre Dame fan were thinking.

2. 11-7 record at home.

3. Over a span of their last 25 games, Notre Dame has lost eight of those games by more than three touchdowns. Basically, Notre Dame in its last 25 games has been waxed 30% of the time.

4. From what I've heard, and I don't follow Notre Dame recruting, but last year's recruting class was not a great one and things weren't going real well early on for this class.

For different reasons I probably would have given each coach at least one more season, but guess I can see the changes were made.

After 10 days of rest, its back to the real world...

Quick summary of my world the last 10 days...

- I have a cold, or maybe that dreaded flu! Oh no! I better drive to Canada to get my shot!

- We kicked their ass in Falujah. When the f*ck are we going to start seeing results. I have always been a supporter of our efforts in Iraq. I believe, in principal, that spreading freedom and democracy, with force when needed, is neccesary in winning the war on terror. That said, I'n not sure how good of a job we are doing.

- Buckeyes are now 5-1, and we dont even have "others receiving votes" in either the top 25 or coaches poll. Not that I really care. While lacking size, The Buckeyes have some good talent, and Thad Matta runs a very tight ship.

- I gave Air America a try (1230 here in Columbus). If Rush Limbaugh is an idiot, these people belong in a mental institution. I listened on three seperate ocasions, and the only thing these people can talk about is how Geoge Bush and deibold stole the election in Ohio. If your a republican, you have to be thinking "this is just too easy"... The scary thing is, that it is too easy for republicans to win because the left has stupid, basless arguments. I didnt say their ideas or policy was as such. Infact I agree with the left, sometimes. But their rhetoric is nails down the chalk board.

With wins over Townson and Robert Morris by a collective 63 points in two nights, Ohio State is showing some promise.

Now, Ohio State has yet to televise a game, so I will see them for the first time this Friday night. I suspect they are running a more disciplined offense with 1st year head coach Thad Matta.

I really want to see how Jr. JC transfer Je’Kel Foster looks. Over the last two nights hes been 7-13 from the field and 5-9 from 3 point land.

Freshman Jamar Butler is getting lots of minutes, as is a lot of Buckeyes. Freshman Matt Sylvester is doing a solid job down low, which is very good news considering they are very thin on the blocks. Dials and Sullinger have been solid. However, Brandon Fuss Cheatham had to leaves after 6 minutes due to an ankle injury. While he did not return, it does not appear to be serious.

JC transfer Je'Kel Foster (where do the Bucks get their names from?) was a solid 6-8 form the floor, 1-2 from 3 point land, and 6-6 from the free throw line.

In fact The Buckeyes were SOLID from the line. Dials was 10-11 and freshman Jamar Butler was 3-4.

Another freshman Jermly Jackson-Wilson(F) (longer last name than Fuss-Cheatham), turned the ball over 3 times in 4 minutes.

The other freshman, Matt Terwilliger(F) was 1-1 with a rebound in 10 minutes. He is listed at 6-8 and is 215 lbs. Thats skinny.

Ohio State's front court is very thin, so both of these freshmen will be expected to play.

Ohio State will host the first two rounds of the Guardian Classic starting Monday, where they will play Towson(who?) in the first round and possibly Robert Morris or Murray State in the second round on Tuesday. If they advance, they will travel to Kansas City to possibly play... I dont know... Im too tired to find out.

While I still like football, I have more-or-less become a two sport man: Baseball and College Basketball. After the ass-whooping The Cardinals had to endure from the Red Sox, I have been waiting for tonight: The start of college basketball. Its only exhibition, but good enough!

Anyone, for the hell of it, want to go down and scalp tickets tonight for OSU Vs Northern Kentucky? Most likely we would be able to get down low for face value....

Hey, how about a lighter subject!

Here is my dream college football playoff system:

There will still be a BCS-like ranking system, but it will only be used to find the top 8 at large teams who don’t get an automatic bid by winning their conference, and for seeding.

There are 12 Division in Division 1-A football and all division champions would make it. If you don’t agree that the so-called mid-major champions should not get an automatic birth, then they shouldn’t be apart of Division 1-A football.

Conferences like the Big Ten that have a convoluted system and always seem to have co-champions need to work out the kinks to guarantee one champion. They could do this by having a championship game, or by scheduling teams to play every team in the conference instead of the current system of only playing 8 of the 10.

The advantage of winning your conference is getting a bye in the first week. After the 8 at large teams play 8 vs. 1, 2 vs. 7 and so on, those 4 teams will join the 12 conference and all 16 teams be seeded by their regular season BCS-like rankings.

If you keep the regular season to 12 games max, and the max amount of games you can play in the playoffs is 5, that’s 17 games max for 2 teams.

Many of the nay-sayers say this is way too many games for these young men to play. This is silly.

14-18 year olds in the state of Ohio will play a max of 15 games to win the state title. Pro football players will play 19 or 20 games max to win the super bowl, depending on if they win their division, or if they are a wild card. 16 or 17 games to once and for all determine a true champion in college football falls exactly between high school and professional.

A fair system is owed to the fans, and most importantly, it is owed to the football players themselves, who year after year get cheated out of a chance to be called the best.

There are two major obstacles I see to a system similar to this happening.

1) ABC and the BCS.

2) The bowl committees.

In my system, there would be 4+8+4+2+1 games played: 19. There are currently 27 bowls in 26 cities, two played in the citrus bowl in Orlando. All of these sites but 7 could be used. Each game could still be called the rose bowl, FedEx orange bowl, and so on. 16 teams left out that would have made the Insight.com Bowl or the coveted and sought after San Francisco Bowl could still play those games. They would be meaningless, but, how would that be any different than they are now?
